Working Solution:

RSA, IBM & Accenture, Call Center Quotation System,

The Challenge

RSA’s (Royal Sun Alliance plc) cost optimization plan for IS services embraced removing any workloads or license costs associated with non-production systems on the mainframe, with no disruption to live operations.

Although MR1 had been replaced by a more modern system, direct call center access to MR1 data was still critical. The challenge was to find the most cost-effective technology to enable immediate access, autonomous from the mainframe.

The Solution

• Implement DataNovata: The Enterprise Application Data Bridge, to engage the MR1 System data with all the relationships intact.
• Generate an XML, Java-based, DataNovata application that mirrored the original database functionality

The Project

MR1 had a complex system architecture with multiple interfaces from a variety of systems. The DataNovata team had to guarantee that the design and functionality would succeed before the data could be transferred and host application decommissioned.
• IBM host mainframe
• CICS database
• Port 40GB of data records
• 1295 users registered for access
• Decommission the MR1 application

The Result

• The MR1 decommissioning initiative was initiated in Q4 2014 in partnership with IBM and Accenture. The project was completed by the end of Q1 2015 on target with the projected schedule
• RSA decommissioned its MR1 mainframe system with no loss of data accessibility or call center disruption.
• RSA achieved its cost-saving projections

“We recognized that we needed to implement an archiving solution as part of our application rationalization program. We chose DataNovata as it provided us with a secure and on-demand method of retrieving legacy data from decommissioned applications.”
