Download the Case StudySince 1983, Royal Sun Alliance’s (RSA) Property Services division operated a bespoke property management accounting system containing all freehold and leasehold data. The system was being maintained on an AS400 platform, exporting daily changes to 289 Excel files as a continuity precaution.
The challenge was to decommission the AS400 and support the business need for constant accessibility, without the high maintenance costs.
The Challenge:
- Decommission an AS400 operating all the Property Division’s leasehold and freehold data
- Stop exporting the database to Excel sheets as a security precaution
- Process 3 GB of data records into a read-only accessible data platform with full referential integrity
The Project:
-
Consult with property management and technical support teams to agree the functional requirements
-
Design the application and migrate the data from its current host:
- AS400 production server
- Proprietary AS400 data sets
- 3 GB of data
- 289 Excel spreadsheets
The Result
-
Project completed in less than 3 months with all users transitioned to the new system
-
AS400 shutdown, resulting in £40,000 p.a. of savings
-
All data history now accessible through DataNovata
