Gartner® names DataNovata as an "Archive First" vendor that can help businesses cut down their SaaS license costs
4 Sep 2025
Here are the facts from Gartner*:
- Data storage accounts for a third of IT budgets
- Up to 80% of enterprise data is estimated to be unused
- Data that doesn't need to be in the cloud/on the SaaS platform inflates cost of volume/usage-based licenses at renewal
According to Gartner, data archiving has always been implemented as an afterthought or an intervention, ticking the compliance box or managing issues as they arise in small-scale projects; Gartner advises smart business leaders to adopt an "archive first" mentality and names DataNovata as a vendor in their research paper "Stop Overpaying: Reduce Cloud and SaaS Costs With Proactive Data Archiving."
In their research, Gartner demonstrates how implementing data archiving for idle data as a regular, built-in step shrinks license costs by hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. That data can now be available as an asset without being a major cost and risk liability.
Gartner names DataNovata as an "archive first" solution that supports trust in the data archive performance and frictionless usability. Gartner state that DataNovata "focus[es] on native‑experience usability, federated search and legacy application data decoupling, approaches that help organizations build user trust, accelerate adoption, and reduce resistance to strategic archiving initiatives."
